The Senior Director, Equity at the KIPP Foundation will be setting the strategy for our culture, anti-racist and equity work at the KIPP Foundation. The Senior Director will lead our strategy and guide our efforts for the KIPP Foundation to work in eliminating systemic organizational marginalization, while promoting equitable and anti-racist practices that will be evidenced through our structures, policies, and practices. This position will also have the opportunity to engage with the larger KIPP Network in its efforts to uphold its commitment to Equity and Racial Justice.
The Senior Director, Equity reports to the Chief Equity Officer and manages the culture and anti-racist work of the KIPP Foundation (KF).
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop & Direct Implementation of Strategic Plan: Oversee the development and implementation of a strategic plan for Equity and Racial Justice at the KIPP Foundation and the Network that is rooted in our mission, theory of action, and vision for Racial Justice. Develop organization-wide systems to collect input, analyze data (both qualitative and quantitative), and monitor/report on progress.
- Support the implementation of Network-wide Equity Strategic Plan: Support the development and implementation of a strategic plan for Equity and Racial Justice at the Network-level that is rooted in our mission, theory of action, and vision for Racial Justice.
- Develop and Implement individualized team-plans to ensure that each KF team is continuously working on becoming anti-racist and anti-oppressive, as well as working towards racial justice in their practice and behaviors.
- Coordinate and develop a team of KF employees committed to shifting culture towards anti-racism in the organization and collaboratively implement plans
- Lead and coordinate KIPP Foundation’s conscious raising efforts, including affinity-spaces, bi-weekly racial justice emails, and regular book/podcasts/ article discussions
- Develop consistent communication and feedback mechanisms to ensure we are able to identify, discuss and address equity issues impacting KIPP Foundation. Stay abreast of research and best practice in equity and inclusion and infuse/adapt to KIPP. Develop communication systems to share best practices, highlight bright spots, and keep staff apprised of key initiatives and activities.
- Serve as Trusted Advisor and Thought Partner to Colleagues. Support and advocate for teammates who are being impacted by issues of equity and inclusion. Champion a positive culture including feedback and training for those who need to develop their skills and/or awareness of the impact they are having on others.
- Examine KIPP Foundation’s policies, procedures and practices and identify what needs to evolve, be changed, or initiated utilizing community-based approaches to change management
- Facilitate equity and racial justice professional development and engage in relationships with external partners as needed to deliver training and support to achieve our plan.

Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred. However, education does not take the place of robust/relevant work experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience
- Knowledge of best practices in equity and racial justice, including grounding in unconscious bias, issues of LGBTQ and Gender Equity and comfort in facilitating discussions around marginalization, anti-racism and anti-oppression
- Demonstrated success in juggling multiple projects and competing priorities across multiple teams of people with a meticulous attention to detail
- Demonstrated passion to issues of equity, race and dismantling white supremacy
- Demonstrated ability to create cultural shifts grounded in community while centering and uplifting marginalized voices
- Demonstrated success in driving individuals and teams with a focus on equity and racial justice
Location & Travel
Flexible, but NY, Chicago, SF or DC preferred. 20% travel post-COVID
