Position Overview

The Purchasing Specialist will join the KIPP New Orleans Schools (KNOS) finance team, which is charged with supporting our schools and organizational leaders’ ability to educate and serve our students by maintaining flawlessly accurate financial records, processing accurate and on-time financial transactions, and providing data and strategic insights to key decision makers across the organization. This role is accountable for processing purchase requisitions and placing orders for KNOS’ eight schools and a regional support office.

The Purchasing Specialist will work closely with schools and support teams to ensure timely processing of orders and tracking confirmations of receipt and provide financial safeguards, ensuring all purchases are authorized and comply with KNOS policies.  The position reports to the Controller.  The Purchasing Specialist must possess:

The Purchasing Specialist’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. In executing all responsibilities, the Purchasing Specialist must focus on excellent outcomes for KNOS students and the organization as a whole:
 
  • Process requisitions and purchase orders. Distribute to schools and team leaders for approval
  • Tracking, collecting, and digitally filling approved purchase orders and invoices from schools
  • Process travel reservations for KNOS team member flights and hotels
  • Reconcile KNOS regional credit cards weekly
  • Place orders and reconcile discrepancies with vendors
  • Process check requests for schools and the school support office
  • Place credit card purchases for schools and school support office
  • Maintain meticulously organized digital records, accessible to finance team members
  • Work with vendors to obtain preferred billing and pricing relationships
  • Obtain multiple bids from vendors as needed
  • Seek process improvements and ensure all purchases are placed accurately, efficiently and in compliance with KNOS policies
The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:
  • 2 to 3 years accounting experience
  • Proficient in MS Excel and office products
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Self-starter and strategic thinker
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
