Founded in Houston in 1994, KIPP has become a national leader in the movement to provide all children with access to an exemplary education and the academic and character skills necessary to thrive in and graduate from college, positively impact their communities, and lead choice-filled lives.

In 2018, KIPP schools in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio joined forces to become KIPP Texas Public Schools, a nonprofit public charter school network, accelerating student academic outcomes and impact more students across Texas. In the 2019-2020 school year, KIPP Texas Public Schools will educate more than 29,000 students in 55 schools, placing the district among the top 50 largest in the state. KIPP Texas will continue to prove what is possible for its students, communities, and state, with a goal of growing to educate 100,000 students and achieving a 75% college graduation rate for alumni.

KIPP Texas is part of the national KIPP network of 224 college-preparatory public charter schools educating early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school students. KIPP schools are part of the free public school system and enrollment is open to all students. Nationwide, KIPP students complete four-year college at a rate of 36 percent, comparable to the national average for all students and approximately three times higher than the average of students from low-income families.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this is a new opportunity to lead the statewide talent function at KIPP Texas Public Schools. Specifically this position will lead talent recruitment, talent development, and organizational effectiveness. This position will also be key to the overall culture and Team & Family engagement at KIPP Texas.

Position Overview:

At KIPP Texas Public Schools, the Deputy Chief of Talent is our #1 talent champion. They co-create and hold a talent vision for KIPP Texas that puts diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) squarely at the center of our work, so that we can attract, develop, deploy,  and retain the best talent in education. Enhancing the overall strength of the KIPP Texas talent pipeline, elevating the Team & Family culture, and supporting overall organizational performance and effectiveness are key duties of the role.

Senior Leadership Profile – Significant relevant work experience in senior leadership roles. Experience managing multiple functions and working knowledge of HR fundamentals. Strong oral and written communication skills and experience representing an organization externally. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree highly desirable, former educator preferred.

Specific Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience with a majority of time spent in talent management roles coupled with a strong track record of experience and equity-driven results at a senior level 
  • Specific expertise in attracting, selecting, developing and retaining diverse talent 
  • Deep familiarity with the talent challenges facing urban schools strongly preferred (especially issues of principal/teacher development and retention)  
  • A human capital professional with broad exposure to all HR functions who understands how various talent systems- and their corresponding legal and policy implications - impact employees and fuel - or hinder - equity within an organization 
  •  A track record of pursuing equity within their leadership 
  • Deep familiarity with talent management issues and the talent challenges facing urban schools strongly preferred (especially issues of principal/teacher development and retention.) 
  • Exceptional manager, coach, and team leader 
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and the school network 
  • Experience bringing strategic, analytical and critical thinking skills as a member of an organizational leadership team
Compensation and Benefits

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
