Assistant Principal of Math, 5-8
KIPP New Jersey, founded in 2002, is a network of public charter schools across Newark and Camden, New Jersey.  Over the next five years KIPP NJ will continue to open new schools in Newark and Camden and is currently seeking an Assistant Principal of Math to join our Camden region in the 2019-20 school year. The Assistant Principal will work directly with the School Leader to ensure that students are meeting ambitious academic goals and that they are on the path to and through college.
About This Position
As a leader at KIPP NJ, the assistant principal will be responsible for student achievement in mathematics courses in the building.  The assistant principal will be instructionally-focused with a heavy emphasis on teacher coaching and using data to develop strong teachers and improve student achievement.  The assistant principal will also be responsible for delivering content-based professional development and developing department and grade level chairs.  With the support of our deans, the assistant principal is also responsible for ensuring strong student culture, thus creating the optimal learning environment for academic achievement.   An effective assistant principal will ensure that our schools’ instructional program and school environment prepares every student for success in college and in life.
Key Responsibilities
The assistant principal leads, manages and develops teachers by executing on the following duties:
  • Develop teachers to provide rigorous and high quality instruction
  • Build knowledge and expertise in effective instructional strategies and academic standards
  • Hold teachers accountable to deliverables and results
  • Drive student achievement through observation and feedback
  • Ensure that students meet their annual GPA, ACT, PARCC and AP goals
  • Develop and lead school-wide professional development for teachers and staff
  • Develop department and grade level chairs
  • Model strong school culture
  • Support the implementation of proactive student discipline strategies
 
 
About You
Strong candidates for this position will demonstrate an unwavering focus on student achievement and a record of success in leading teams, people and instruction. Additional qualifications include:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a school environment with high expectations
  • Demonstrated academic results as a math teacher
  • Demonstrated results as an instructional coach
  • Belief that teachers are the primary drivers of student achievement
  • Ability to push staff while inspiring them
  • High bar for teachers and students
  • Demonstrated ability to hold people accountable to a high bar
  • Ability to problem solve - resilient
