KIPP New Jersey is looking for passionate and skilled special education teachers to lead a self-contained classroom for students, ages 6-8 and 9-11, with our most severe cognitive and behavioral needs.  These teachers will use scripted curriculum and assistant technology to provide individualized instruction for all kids. Working closely with a social worker, school psychologist, and the director of special education, these teachers will receive the support necessary to exercise a holistic approach to child development and intervention.

Responsibilities

Joining one of our elementary schools comes with a lot of growth opportunities, but with great power comes great responsibility. Here are a few for this position:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each student daily
  • Create and maintain high quality, compliant IEPs aligned with state and regional expectations for IEP development and implementation
  • Comply with Case Manager’s management of the IEP process
  • Communicate with specialized teams regarding observed and/or anticipated issues with student
  • Manage implementation of academic interventions
  • Utilize preventative techniques to manage target behaviors
  • Manage required documentation daily (charting, graphing, and academic data collection)
  • Assist in the use of therapeutic holds with individual students, utilizing Handle with Care strategies
  • Be all-in for our kids and our team

Must Haves

  • The ability to be flexible in a school environment where things change all the time
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience with special needs including writing and implementing IEPs
  • Special Education Teacher certification
  • A track record of academic, emotional, and behavioral results that demonstrate knowledge of effective intervention
  • A collaborative attitude towards teaching and learning​
