Founded in 2002, KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools serves elementary, middle, and high school students in South and North Memphis. The KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools team and family serves as a model of excellence and collaborates with other community organizations to raise the overall quality of education in Memphis.
Reporting to the Academic ELA Program Manager the Reading Specialist will drive a culture of excellence and high levels of student achievement at KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools by teaching students how to read. The Reading Interventionist will work closely with principals, instructional coaches, and teachers at KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools to execute the region’s academic vision and priorities of Guided Reading.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Plan Exemplary Guided Reading Instruction
Focus Planning on STEP leveled K-4 and F & P for grades 3-8
Consistently Plan for 45-60 minutes of guided reading instruction 3-5 days a week.
Plan for high functioning Literacy Circles that involve written literary response.
Implement Exemplary Guided Reading Instruction
Teach targeted literacy intervention to small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources.
Plan for Guided Reading groups using the Guided Reading Lesson Plan template.
Begins lessons with framing with purpose and checkpoint to confirm students can restate the purpose for reading.
Focus on Guided Reading Strategies: Retell, Right there questions (literal), Reasonable Inferences and Referencing Text, Word Study and Writing, Habit of Discussion (HOD) and usage of evidence
Practice the Identification of sight words and vocabulary words and as necessary phonemic development.
€ Monitoring students for success and documenting progress using LLI trackers
Observed student ations and give actionable feedback during GR lesson
Ensure that students are meeting the regional designed metrics
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree Preferred

Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization. Frequent travel to KIPP Memphis campuses and occasional statewide and out of town travel required.
