DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
KIPP Houston Public Schools (KHPS) Student Support Services (S3) is a multi-disciplinary network of special educators, counselors, social workers, dyslexia specialists, 504 representatives, and clinic coordinators. Our team exists to prevent, respond to, and minimize the barriers to learning that our students experience.

ROLE SUMMARY:
KHPS is seeking a highly motivated full-time The Special Education Paraprofessional will help the Special Education Teacher provide for the instructional and physical needs of students with disabilities in the school setting. In addition, the Special Education Paraprofessional will assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. This person will work under general supervision of the School Leader and immediate direction of a certified teacher.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Support:
Follow teacher instruction and guidance
Adhere to Texas Education Agency and KIPP Houston Public Schools policies and procedures.
Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel.
Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.
Follow teacher instruction and guidance.

Student Management:

Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher
Assist in maintaining student records and audit folders.
Assist in helping students in self-care activities, such as, feeding and toileting needs.

Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
Help manage behavior of students.
Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs

Other:
Participate in planned inservice.
Perform other related duties as required.

Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment

 QUALIFICATIONS:
 Education/Certification:
 Must be considered Highly Qualified according to NCLB guidelines through one of the following:
·At least two years of completed study at an institution of higher education [defined as completion of 48 semester hours (or equivalent trimester hours) of college coursework or an applicable number of semester hours as defined by the institution of higher education attended], whichever is less
