KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools:
KIPP is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools with a track record of preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life.  There are currently over 200 KIPP schools serving nearly 70,000 students in 20 states and the District of Columbia.  KIPP Memphis Collegiate Schools (KMCS) is a part of the national KIPP Network.  In 2018-2019, KMCS will serve approximately 3,000 students in grades K-12 at eight different schools.

Position Overview:
The School Custodians will be responsible for providing custodial and general maintenance support to one of our school buildings.  School Custodians are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment.  They will perform general janitorial cleaning and light maintenance throughout school day and after hours that will contribute to the general upkeep of the school.  The School Custodians will report to a Lead Custodian.  Work times will vary, but School Custodians will work for five hours per day, a maximum of 25 hours per week.
 
Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities for this position may include (but are not limited to):
  • Daily cleaning of all school-used spaces
  • Thoroughly cleaning/sanitizing and/or dusting all hard surfaces in restrooms, classrooms, offices, cafeteria, and other spaces
  • Checking and restocking restroom supplies (tissue, paper towels, soap) in all dispensers throughout the school on a daily basis
  • Emptying restroom, classroom, office, hallway, and cafeteria garbage cans throughout each day; carrying garbage to outside dumpsters; washing garbage cans as needed
  • Vacuuming, sweeping, dust mopping, mopping, and buffing floors
  • Set up and take-down of furniture for daily meals and for special events
  • Checking and replacing light bulbs as needed
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting areas after a spill or accident (including bodily fluids)
  • Removing graffiti from any walls or hard surfaces; touch up paint on walls, doors, and door frames as needed
  • Removing litter from the school grounds
  • Carrying/moving equipment, supplies, and furniture as needed
  • Assemble furniture; perform minor repairs to furniture and fixtures as needed
  • Keeping all janitorial and cleaning supplies organized, stocked, and stored safely in the assigned locations
  • Ensuring that the school building is ready in the morning by walking through the building 30 minutes prior to the school start time, ensuring that garbage can liners are in place and that restrooms are stocked
  • Ensuring that the school building is secure at night by turning off all classroom, hallway, and office lights, ensuring that all windows are closed and latched, and locking all classroom and office doors
  • Ensuring that the school building remains safe at all times by never propping open exterior doors or allowing visitors to enter doors other than the main entrance
  • Performing deep cleaning services such as stripping and waxing floors at times when school is not in session
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Lead Custodian, Director of School Operations, Principal, or other school administrator

Hourly wages up to $15/hour, depending on experience.
