Here's what you need to know:
KIPP New Jersey | KIPP Miami is looking for an exceptional Director of Elementary Literacy Achievement to serve as our region’s content expert in elementary literacy. You will coach instructional leaders across our elementary schools, diagnose issues specific to literacy achievement and curricular execution, and provide excellent literacy focused professional development for both teachers and leaders.

A bit more about you… You have been an outstanding teacher, instructional coach, and building-level leader. You’ve taught at the elementary level, led within a building or across a network, and you know how to improve achievement across classrooms and grade levels. You are ready to make an impact across schools by sharing your knowledge and developing the capacity of teachers and leaders across our network of schools in Newark, Camden, and Miami.

Here's what you’ll be doing:
  • Driving results in elementary literacy, on both leveled literacy assessments as well as assessments of the Common Core, through coaching and professional development
  • Helping to foster a culture of joyful engagement with reading and with learning in all of our elementary schools
  • Developing and facilitating region- and network-wide professional development for teachers, instructional leaders, and School Leaders in order to build our teachers’ and leaders’ capacity with elementary literacy content and instructional execution (coaching the coaches!)
  • Collaborating with other members of the Teaching and Learning team as well as School Leaders and Assistant Principals to develop and refine a horizontally and vertically aligned K-12 literacy framework, curricula, and assessments
  • Analyzing regional data in collaboration with other members of the Teaching & Learning TEAM, Assistant Principals, and School Leaders to identify areas of need and support the facilitation of region-wide instructional initiatives that lead us to our goals
  • Supporting the implementation of a balanced literacy approach in our elementary schools, using resources from the Fountas & Pinnell Classroom method, as well as Close Reading curriculum developed in-house at KIPP New Jersey and KIPP Miami

Must Haves (ie: What you need to rock this role):
  • Ability to evaluate and implement literacy instructional programs and deep knowledge of the Common Core State Standards in literacy, as well as the design and blueprint of the PARCC/NJSLA-ELA assessment
  • Minimum 4 years exemplary teaching experience including work with 3rd and 4th grade, with outstanding student achievement results
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a full-time coaching role (assistant principal, dean of instruction, instructional coach, etc.) with demonstrated success in getting academic results through others
  • Knowledge of literacy content and learning theory, current educational trends, blended learning practices, methods, research, and technology, and program planning and implementation
  • Experience leading engaging and effective professional development for adults
  • Strong communication skills and follow-through
  • Demonstrated initiative in prioritizing amidst complex needs and strategically planning to get results
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task within an ambiguous, fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment while also driving toward clarity and solutions

Nice to Haves:
Assistant Principal or Principal experience with demonstrated student growth under your leadership
Experience working with diverse and underserved communities
