Here's what you need to know:
We’re looking for a special education teacher to lead a self-contained (all subjects) classroom. As a SPED teacher, you will be responsible for planning and executing lessons for a classroom of elementary school students.
A bit more about you… you have experience teaching and you know what good special education instruction looks like for elementary school. You’re ready to work hard and have the passion and drive to work with students in order to put them on a path to college.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Teach and support students with special needs in order to help them reach their goals
Perform daily teaching tasks like teaching, grading, monitoring lunch, and any of the other things that make you awesome at your job
Be a good teammate – work closely with other school staff to create and reinforce a firm foundation for all classes
Modify and build your curriculum to make it your best, working closely with the principal, instructional leader, and student support teams
Help with diagnostic and progress monitoring testing across the school
Teach guided reading to small groups of kids to remediate and challenge each student
Update student performance trackers and use data to help guide you plans
Communicate consistently with families about student progress
Must Haves (ie: what you need to rock at this role):
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
Be Special Education Certified
A minimum of two years teaching Special Education, preferably in urban or low income settings
A track record of success in the classroom, with data that you can explain
Subject matter expertise
A collaborative attitude towards teaching and learning
The ability to be flexible in a fast-paced founding school environment where things change all the time
